Learning English

People who move to the UK need English language skills to access training, gain employment and participate in society. Enabling new arrivals and longer-term residents to fulfil their potential is fundamental: migrants bring with them valuable abilities, qualifications and experience which can lie untapped unless they have the chance to learn English to an appropriate level. The way that this is achieved is through English language provision known as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages).

https://www.learningenglish.org.uk/

It can be very difficult to find information about ESOL classes. This website helps by listing all English language education providers and their classes in Yorkshire & the Humber, for anyone who wants to learn English and anyone who is helping them.

The website was developed by the Migrant English Support Hub (MESH). MESH is a charity dedicated to supporting adult migrant language learners in the Yorkshire & Humber region.

The Learning English in Yorkshire & the Humber project is funded by Migration Yorkshire, on behalf of the Yorkshire & Humber participating Local Authorities, through the UK Home Office Syrian Resettlement Programme.

On their website you can find information about English language classes in your area and across the Yorkshire and Humber region.

You can find out which classes are free, where they are held, what level they are and whether childcare is available.

We hope the website will be useful to learners, providers and support staff working with migrants in many different organisations.
