Kirklees Council and Migration Yorkshire are delivering an introduction to migration training session

Aims of the day

To provide an overview of migration in Kirklees for officers, managers, frontline staff and partners of the Council.

Aimed at:

  • Officers, managers, frontline staff and partners responsible for both strategic and operational management and frontline service delivery;
  • Officers, managers, frontline staff and partners representing diverse communities;
  • Officers, managers, frontline staff and partners who may have no or little knowledge on migration issues;
  • Officers, managers, frontline staff and partners who want to increase their understanding of migration issues in the area.

By the end of the course participants will:

  • Understand different types of migrant groups and different routes of entry to the UK
  • Understand the patterns of migration in the local area and the region and the impact this has on service delivery
  • Understand some of the key current issues relating to migration
  • Understand some of the challenges that can affect migrants and communities with migrants and how Councils and other services may respond to some of these challenges.
  • Understand the support available in Kirklees through #KirkleesWelcomes

A range of EUSS information to support applicants is available on GOV.UK. This includes translated mainstream guidance , and translated EUSS factsheets .

Free support with complex cases

EU Delegation provides free legal support surgeries that can be booked online. The aim of providing one-to-one legal support to at least 10 vulnerable citizens per surgery. Local authorities can book the surgeries for children in care and care leavers so please share this information with your children’s services teams.

Free online workshops

A number of free information sessions and workshops covering different aspects of the EU Settlement Scheme are available in May and June, starting from next week. Please see below for dates and details how to book on. Please circulate it among your networks.

Adult and Community Learning – New Spring Timetable 2021

Kirklees Adult Learning has launched its spring 2021 course timetable.  Offering a range of short courses and workshops, there should be something to suit everyone.  We have courses to help with employability skills, boost confidence and thinking skills, health and wellbeing, eating healthily and on a budget as well as helping you cope with isolation.  There are courses for supporting family learning, phonics, supporting reading and how to manage challenging behaviour too. 

Many people have sadly lost their jobs during the pandemic, or understandably may be struggling to stay motivated. Learning something new is a great way to build skills and confidence, our courses are aimed at complete beginners, they are free with no fee to pay, all we ask is that you bring a willingness to learn.

Emotional and Wellbeing Support for Migrants Training

Solace are regional leaders in providing therapeutic services for refugees.

This specialist training aims to equip professionals in supporting refugees and asylum seekers in improving their wellbeing and mental health.

Training Objectives:

Developing a greater understanding of how to help migrant groups in Kirklees- with emotional well-being. Comprising of:

1. Understanding the emotional health of migrant groups

2. Understand Solace’s therapeutic services and how to refer to us

3. To have strategies for communicating with migrant groups about emotional well-being

Census 2021 – Ensuring everyone is included – focus on migration

Kirklees Council and Census are lunching a series of workshops.

Outcome

You will have a sound understanding of:

  • What a Census is and its purpose
  • To ensure awareness is raised of all the support available to our communities and promote the multi lingual, multi platform accessibility of the census, especially for those who may miss out
  • Identify what more we can do, working together, to increase Migrants involvement

EU Settlement Scheme Training

Would you benefit from knowing more about the EU Settlement scheme (EUSS)? If you have service users, volunteers, friends, family or colleagues who need to apply for EUSS we can help you to help them with some free online training.

This is a joint work between Kirklees Council and Citizen Advice and Law Centre to deliver six sessions about EU Settlement Scheme.

The training will be delivered by Jamie McLean, and Teams platform will be used for the training.
